Animals and Flowers
by Simon Watkins

Floral and animal subjects approached through Simon's ornamental lens. Bold blackwork patterns, strong decorative lines and a stylised quality that makes every piece unmistakably his.

Ornamental Animals and Flowers

Not just what it is.
How it's built.

When Simon tattoos an animal or a flower, the subject is only part of the conversation. The approach is ornamental from the ground up: bold outlines, blackwork pattern elements, stylised forms that carry decorative weight rather than simply depicting a subject. A tiger becomes a composition. A peony becomes an architectural element. The flair is always there.

This approach gives his animal and floral work a longevity and graphic presence that more illustrative or realistic interpretations do not always have. The pieces read strongly at a distance and hold their character over time. Whether it is a standalone floral piece or a botanical element within a larger sleeve, Simon's ornamental instinct shapes every line.

Simon placed 1st in Decorative at Brighton Tattoo Convention 2026 and 3rd in Ornamental at the London Tattoo Convention.

What Simon Does in This Area

The subjects.
The approach.

01
Floral and botanical
Peonies, roses, lotus and other botanical subjects given a decorative, pattern-driven treatment. These pieces sit particularly well as standalone forearm or leg pieces, or as floral elements within a larger ornamental composition. Simon's floral work is bold and structured rather than delicate or naturalistic.
02
Animals with ornamental flair
Tigers, rabbits, and other animals approached through Simon's decorative sensibility. Stylised forms, blackwork pattern fills and strong graphic outlines that give animal subjects a presence beyond straightforward illustration. The subject is recognisable but the execution is distinctly ornamental.
03
Combined in larger compositions
Some of Simon's strongest work combines floral and animal elements within a single composition: a tiger surrounded by decorative botanical work, a back piece where animals and flowers are woven through an ornamental framework. These pieces are worth discussing at consultation to plan properly.
